Excel files are commonly-used in our businesses and our lives nowadays. We know accidents happen and sometimes excel files you want to keep get deleted unintentionally. With just one click though, an important excel file can seem to be gone forever! What should you do to get the excel files back now? This article will walk you through several methods to recover those deleted files.

Method 1: Copy data method

If you can, open the file >> Right-click a sheet tab and choose Select All Sheets >> Right-click a sheet tab and choose Move or Copy >> Choose New Book and check the Create a Copy box >> Hit OK

Method 2: XML method ( Excel 2003 )

If you can, open the file >> Go to Save As >> Select XML Spreadsheet from the list of possible formats and hit Save >> Close the file and reopen in Excel >> Go to Save As >> Select an excel format (ex. Microsoft Excel 97-2003 or Excel Workbook) from the drop-down list >> Change the title to prevent saving over the (corrupted) original >> Hit Save

How to Get Lost Excel Files Back

Method 3: Repair method

Open a blank Excel workbook >> Go to Open >> Find the desired file and choose Open and Repair >> Confirm by clicking Yes. 

Note: This option is in the drop-down list associated with the Open button. If Excel cannot open the file, choose Extract Data. If Excel warns you that the file caused a serious error the last time it was opened, agree to continue opening it.
